Thinking Critically about Photographs

Overall a very nice image. Good textures and the subject is clear. Nice use of leading lines, but it could be stronger.

  1. The bright spot in the chrome makes my eyes wander back to it. You could either tone it down or crop it out.
  2. The orange line, even though it was there, is also distracting. Use content aware fill, vignette or crop it out.
  3. The chrome here is also a little bright. If you can tone it down, great, if not, it's certainly liveable.
  4. The emblem is the real subject of this photo. You know it's a Ford. The lines from the car all lead you to it. It's a little soft and could use a little clarity.

This is not something I'll do every time, but since this is the first, I took it in to Photoshop and used the Nik Color Efex Pro 4.0 filter to make a few small modifications. This is just what looked good to me and made it a bit stronger.I used Darken/Lighten center and put the center point on the Ford emblem. I also added a little vignette with the center placed in the same place. I added a curves adjustment layer mask, adjusted the curve to make it darker then painted over some of the chrome at 80% opacity. You could also use the dodge/burn tool, but I think the curve mask is more effective.
